About write a blog.

Actually, this is my first experience writing a Blog, so this have been for me a total new way to express myself. I´m not going to lie to you, at first I was a little bit embarrassed about what you were going to read in the posts, also at first I didn´t understand very well how to use it. So I was confused, and I was forced in some way, to write in English. It was not easy, but while the weeks were passing I started get used to write in the blog. I acquired confidence and started to enjoy writing in English. I think that practicing my writing is helping me to improve my English in many ways, but essentially in my grammar.
I like very much English, I have been practicing since I was in the school, but with the years I started to forget many things. So I think that practicing my English here at the University, and now writing a blog is helping me to expands my vocabulary and use it correctly.
I think that write in the blog was a good way to improve my English because the professor gives you suggestions all weeks. Thing that becomes very important to correct your mistakes and learn through them. But I also think that is not enough to write a blog in English and it is not enough to receive corrections by professor either. I think that improve your English depends of others things, like motivation, practice, time and study.
Seriously, in one way I enjoyed to write every week in the blog, but in other way sometimes was a little boring and exhaustive because it requires a mental exercise that you are not used to do it every day. Maybe the numbers of the post were excessive considering that almost every week was an obligation to do this, and sometime that was an influence that makes my motivation decreased at the time I was in front of the computer.

Sports

Sports are an activity that I do not practice very much because I waste lot of time in classes at the University and also worried what I have to do for those classes. But, actually I think that sports are very important for physical and mental health. I really think that I need to take me the time for practice during the year, because I practice them only in vacations and that is not enough. During vacations I´m get use to ride my bike, go to the gym and also I have begun to realize soccer, because a great friend encouraged me to practice it.
I think that people think that soccer is an activity focusing only on men, but I think they are wrong, because women now have begun to practice it with great force.
Soccer is a game that is played throughout the world, regulation is played between two teams and a ball, the beauty of this activity is that you can play it wherever you want you can even play it when you're alone.
At first it was quite difficult and I will not lie still is, but over the games I started to love this sport and I have much intention to continue practicing.
I would like to join many more women to play soccer, and people stop believing that it is an activity only for men.
Mainly I like soccer because it keeps you healthy, it's a great sport for your physical and play with men is fun, no matter what some people have a wrong thought and do not like playing with women.

An amazing dusk.

Well, like you can see this picture shows a very beautiful dusk full of natural colors. The photograph was taken by me on January at Iquique, my birthtown. This is the view of on part of my house. That is why at the bottom of the picture you can see houses; I tried to cut them that they didn’t appear in the photo.
I took it because I was very surprised of the amazing picture that nature can do getting together, just for a few minutes, this nature rainbow in the sky, and also I took it because I wanted to keep a memory of one example of the most awesome dusk that I used to watch while I was still living in Iquique.
The thing is, that here in Santiago I miss a lot the sea and the dusk like part of the scenery. I really think that this moment in the day is very important, maybe I am a little crazy… I don’t know, I am not really sure… but I have even thought that in that moment the nature has her own party… yes, because for me, it represents a transition, the transition between the day and the night, like two poles… It is the moment in the day, just like the sunrise, that we can see the moon and the soon together, in the same sky that we can have access to see.
If you pay attention and watch for a minute the skyline seems to be endless… I don’t kwon, what do you thing? Do you like to watch the dusk? I really love it and I miss it a lot to watch it every day…

The Big Fish

I think there are many movies that I´ve seen and I´ve enjoyed very much. One of the movies that I liked the most was “The Big Fish”. This movie is directed by Tim Burton and is based on the novel: “Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions” written by Daniel Wallace. The mains characters are Edward Bloom, an old man who is about to die, and Will Bloom, his son who is going to meet with him after many years. The movie tells the history of a man (Edward Bloom) that was, for lot of years, telling stories that supposed to be moments of he lived, the distinctive of the stories was that he adding them fantastic characteristic. Strange characters and places were always presents on them, like a witch who could tell you the future through her glass eye, a giant, a werewolf, two girls that were conjoined twins, and many others.
His only son, skeptical that these histories actually happened was very angry with him because he was tired that his father was always laying about his life. Until he found out that his father actually lived many of the situations that he was telling, but just with the particularity that they were remember through the language of his father amazing creativity.
I think that I like this movie because it makes me think that our life is just how we are telling ours stories to ourselves, the moments that we actually lived are just the representations of the memories that are full of emotion and affectivity looked by the eyes of ourselves.

My iPhone

Mi favorite piece of technology is my iPhone. I got it since March, i don´t remenber the specif day, but it was a gift for my birthday from my mom. She gave me when I returned from vacations. My birthday was the 17 of February, so I was not at home to celebrate and get the presents.
Well, I use my iPhone in many ocasions, because it has many funtions. The people who created it call it a smartphone because of his multiple funtions. It is a cellphone, a camera phone, a portable media player to listen music, also have unlimited conection to internet, so I can check my email at any time or whereever I´m, or surf on many pages. Because his unlimited conection to internet I can download free aplications, like games, maps, and many others that can be usefull for me. This piece permits me to customize it acording to my needs. I like it because of that, it gives me the flexibility to have in just one piece many things that may be useful, necessary and fun.
I think that besides of be so useful, provide facilities and comply many funtions, it is just a material object, like others material objects, that can be useful while we want, while provides us something. I think that my life would be the same if I don´t have it, maybe not that confortable, but the same anyway.

Maritza Montero

Maritza Montero is one of the pioneers of Latin American Social Psychology, is a community psychologist from Venezuela. She has a MA in Psychology from the University Simón Bolívar and Ph.D. Sociology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Affairs of the University of Paris.
Moreover she has done class in universities from America, Europe and Australia and she has written numerous articles in scientific journals and many books too.
I think that she is a great psychologist because she proposes a very different form of access to a community and she is committed to the liberation and transformation of Latin American societies. In fact she is a very important person in her approach. She received the Inter-American Psychology award in 1995 and the National Science Award in the area of Social Sciences, in Venezuela in the 2000
Maritza Montero does conferences often; in this picture she appears in the commemoration of 50 years at the School of Psychology of Catholic University of Chile. On that occasion, she presented "Challenges, tools and current prospects of Community Psychology”.
If you didn´t know about her. I hope now, you are more interested in their theorizations.

My favorite group?

I would like to talk about one of the group that I like a lot: The Beatles. I don´t really know what my favorite group is, like, “the one”. I have never asked myself about that, I just listen the music; I like a lot the music, in all his kinds….

Well, The Beatles were an English Rock Band during the sixties, but they reached so high in popularity, that until our days people hears them. I think that their characterize because of be one of the “classic” type of groups.

Their music mix many genres ranging from folk rock to psychedelic pop. Through their music, were an inspiration for the people of the sixties, as they represented ideals that had to do with a cultural transformation and social movements, as women's liberation, gay liberation and environmentalism.

¿Why do I like them? I don´t know! I just enjoy listening their music

About the earthquake

I remember that during the afternoon that the earthquake happened I spend all day at my department with my parents. They were travelling around the 4th region by car, and before they return to Iquique the last stop was Santiago.

At night, around ten or ten thirty, I meet with some friends to go to a classmate home that were going to celebrate his birthday, so we went there to celebrate.

Before that the earthquake starts I was sitting I the front yard talking with some classmates. At first I thought that was a slow movement that was going to past quickly. But it started to move stronger and the light turn off. The only thing that I could think while this was happening was in my parents, they were sleeping in the 17th floor. I was so afraid for them. I took my cell phone the fast that I could and I wait that the movement stops. I call immediately and I could communicate with them, there were ok. After an hour I return to my home and met my parents.

Hi! my name is Paulina. I´m 23 years old. I study Psichology, this is my fourth year at the career. I´m not from Santiago, but I came to live here because of my studies. My hometown is Iquique, in the north of Chile. Sometimes I miss a lot to live there. I miss the weather, the people, and the most: the bech. I love to watch the dusk sitting on the sand, the view is amazing, you can see a lot of colors in that especific moment! I think thats why I miss so much the beach. In Santiago you are all surrounded by buildings... you only can see cement. Well, the nature is one of the thing that I love the most, included anothers that I can tell you in other moment. I hope you don`t get so bored... see you in class =S
